jume’s humble beginnings started in the home kitchen spurred from a passion for good coffee. The idea to roast was put to friends who were forever coming over for coffee: "If we started roasting would you be prepared to purchase beans?" The answer was a resounding yes!
Back then we were seeking good-tasting roasting companies which satisfied the taste buds but this was proving to be costly. After a little research, a small benchtop home roaster was purchased.
The name "jume" became established in 1990-something when a company name was sort when placing the first order of green beans. It was typed out in a moment of inspiration.
The orders soon grew to where this 120gm producing roasted bean machine was being pushed beyond its design and the idea to go looking for a way to roast larger quantities soon followed.
It was decided that an air roaster was the way to go, producing a crisp clean taste. So again searching we went. Brilliance of putting it out there showed up and soon a good engineer chap with a passion for coffee reached out and the Red Rocket was created.
Over the years chamber size were increased enabling larger roasted quantities per roast. Somewhere in there, version 2 (or mark 2) Red Roaster was created, due to the growing demand.
Now we're freighting beans all over New Zealand and our new ecom shop is moving jume up in the world of online trade.
